Athens is a shopping paradise for the people who love to shop. There are shops and boutiques located in many parts of the city. Ermou, Mitropoleos, Aiolou, Voukourestiou, Solonos and Academias streets along with Syntagma Square and a few areas in Kolonaki are quite popular. The winter sales in Athens start from January and last till the middle of March. Almost all the shops are open from 9 am to 3 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and from 9 am to 8 pm on Tuesday and Thursday during this time.


Kolonaki is the most famous place for shopping in Athens. There are all kinds of shops, restaurants, and cafes in this area. Syntagma Square is located a few minutes away from Kolonaki. The square boasts a lot of fur shops showcasing fur hats, jackets, and coats. Leather goods, woven wool, and cotton jumpers can be found at Ermou Street and Kolonaki Square. There are a lot of shops displaying a wide range of ancient Greek jewels designed in both traditional as well as modern charms at the areas around Syntagma Square and Kolonaki. Off Syntagma Square is the Ermou Street. The street is packed with accessories and clothing and quality souvenir shops.

Plaka and Monastiraki areas are famous for Greek art, antiques, souvenirs, and old books. One can get all kinds of clothes and shoes at the Ermou, Mitropoleos, Aiolou and Voukourestiou, Solonos and Academias streets. Voukourestiou street houses a lot of designer wear boutiques. The suburb of Maroussi is one of the best places to shop for copper utensils, ceramic goods, and clay. One can also find ceramicists offering handmade ceramic goods.
